Every family is unique, which means no wedding runs by formula. There are blended families and reconstituted families, practicing new traditions and old ones. My own families are blended and we rejoice in new traditions – fun that means something to us alone. I love the quirks that make each wedding and every family different from the next.
Meline and James had a bunch of extended family at their Bethel Inn wedding- it was like three big family reunions. Aunts, uncles, cousins, grandaunts and granduncles were in abundance, as well as college pals and friends “from the internet”. Meline’s father and both of James’ parents had passed away; this brought some bittersweet to the wedding day. Meline’s mom walked her down the aisle then danced the parent dance with her. James danced with his own daughter making a new tradition of father-daughter dance.
Not all weddings are about family, but the interconnectedness and family-ness was everywhere on Meline and James’ day.
My favorite photo of the day is one where somebodies uncle (I think) set up a selfie with a huge crowd of relatives – an homage to Elle Degeneres’ photo at the Academy awards. Completely goofy and adorable!
